Chapter one.
The Starlights
Page 1

The Starlights live in a matchbox.
The Starlight matchbox on the top shelf of the kitchen cupboard.
Starlights are all starstruck matches and once upon a time the Starlight troupe were a family of dazzling stars.
Page 2 and 3

Like the magnificent ‘STARLIGHT BROTHERS’ –
Page 3
– who on New Years eve magically turned all the fireworks into thousands of sparkling shooting stars.
Page 4

Or ‘THE STARLIGHT AUNTIES’ who at a midsummer nights party, to the music of Fire and Flames, lit the barbecue upside down and on their heads!
Page 5

And ‘THE STARLIGHT SISTERS’ who lit all the mosquito candles during an invasion of a swarm of mosquitoes, whilst singing ‘Take that again with fire and flame! Take that again with fire and flame!’
Page 6

But the Starlights haven’t sparkled for a long time.
They are now old dud matches that easily snap –
Page 7

– or after lots of sparks and spluttering fizzle out. “Auh! Auh! Auh! Stupid matches!”
Page 8 and 9

The Starlight matchbox is now nearly empty. Only a really old grandma and grandpa still live in the matchbox, with four dozy uncles, two bad tempered sisters and their step sister Lucy Star.
Lucy is very shy and blushes a lot especially when her two angry step sisters, Lucinda and Lucretia, get bad tempered with her. Then Lucy begins to blush and the angry sisters get even more angry with her!

‘Look’, shrieks Lucinda to Lucretia, as Lucy begins to blush once more, ‘she’s going all red again!’
‘Stop it!’ screams Lucretia, as Lucy’s cheeks get hotter and hotter.
‘You’re fiery red!’ They both shriek. ‘You’re going to set us all on fire!’

Chapter two following very soon…(Hoofdstuk twee komt er snel aan…)
The drawings for ‘Lucy Star’ are the original rough, mostly black and white, sketches that I drew a few years back for the three Lucky Lucifer Matches dummy books, scanned and coloured-in on the computer with Photoshop tools.
They are not the definite illustrations.
I chose to use this method for my stories, here on my weblog, to learn more about all the brushes, tools, paints and colouring palettes available in Photoshop, but at the same time to work on and to keep as close as possible to my original sketches.
All my illustrations and stories on the It’s Another Day weblog are ©2014 Linda Lee.
